The works of Florie Namir have been performed worldwide by NotaRiotous and Dinosaur Annex Ensembles (United States), Meitar Ensemble (Israel), Quartetto Mansi (Italy), Prometheus Ensemble (Belgium) and Trio Elixir (France) among others.
Florie Namir's music possesses a unique and identifiable harmonic color, inspired by a wide array of compositional styles ranging from Debussy to John Adams. "Expressive," "vibrant" and "rhythmically driven" are often used to describe the character of her music. Other creative inspirations include the work of Paul Hindemith. Florie's composition Dialogue for Two Pianos, received an honorary mention of Prof. Giselher Schubert, director of the Paul Hindemith Institute in Frankfurt. In this piece Florie integrated three sketches by Paul Hindemith which the composer never used himself. The score lives in the institute's collection.
Native of Israel (b.1979) Florie Namir earned her Bachelor's degree from Tel Aviv University under the guidance of Joseph Dorfman. Upon moving to the United States, Florie continued her studies with Richard Lavenda and Pierre Jalbert at Rice University. Presently a Ph.D. Candidate in Composition and Theory at Brandeis University, Florie's research focuses on "absolute music" and the pioneer work of Mauricio Kagel. At Brandeis, she studied with David Rakowski and Eric Chasalow. Additional studies included fellowships at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Italy), International Summer Academy of Music (Germany), Académie Musicale De Villecroze (France), deSingel International Arts Campus (Belgium) and the Czech-American Summer Music Institute.
Apart from "classical" works, Florie's compositions include music for film, original songs and incidental music. Her collaboration project, Three Drops on My Hand, with choreographer Mina Muraoka, was showcased as a part of Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts at Brandeis University. Recent project include is a multi-movement piano piece for children/young adults and a piece for Akropolis Reed Quintet for their "Unraveled" Project.
