July 2012

The piece is based on the aria “Don’t weep, beloved eyes” ("Non piangete, amati rai") by Maria Teresa Agnesi. The clear reference to Agnesi's piece is in the center of the piece. My piece extracts the aria's harmony, integrating it in the new environment. The original harmonic pace is expended and the music moves much slower than the aria.  The idea was emphasizing the effect of dissonances while allowing more time to absorb them. Although organized in three quarters meter, as homage for the aria, this piece aspires to be free of time and the result should sound unmetered. In this still-time atmosphere, I try to establish a connecting between my contemporary creation and the one of Agnesi’s. This cross-periods dialogue was an interesting pre-compositional idea for me to work  with.
